On June 3, 2017, a terrorist attack was carried out in London. A van struck several pedestrians on the London Bridge. The terrorists then emerged from the van stabbing many people. In total, there were seven reported deaths an 48 people injured.
In response to the attack, London Mayor Sadiq Khan said, "There aren't words to describe the grief and anger that our city will be feeling. I'm appalled and furious that these cowardly terrorists would deliberately target innocent Londoners and bystanders."
Mayor Khan also assured Londoners that security would be increased to help prevent another attack. "Londoners will see an increased police presence today and over the course of the next few days," he said. So if people see more officers on patrol, "There's no reason to be alarmed."
"The Mayor is busy working with the police, emergency services, and the government to coordinate the response to this horrific and cowardly terrorist attack and provide leadership and reassurance to Londoners and visitors to our city," said a spokesman for Khan. "He has more important things to do than respond to Donald Trump's ill-informed tweet that deliberately takes out of context his remarks urging Londoners not to be alarmed when they saw more police - including armed officers - on the streets."
Rowling's initial Trump tweet received over 400,000 likes and over 150,000 retweets. Many on Twitter were impressed with how she stood up for London and stood up against Trump. And many people replied to Rowling with their own support for her message.
