Jason Momoa may be best known now for his role as Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones, but this talented (and hunky) Hawaiian actor has had quite a long and varied career as an actor. Read on to see Momoa's transformation from teenage heartthrob to leader of the Dothraki.
Oops. I meant Baywatch. Jason Momoa starred in 44 episodes of the iconic series as Jason Ioane, starting when he was just 19 years old. It's a pretty safe bet that this photo of shirtless Momoa was plastered on the walls of countless teenage girls' rooms back in the late '90s and early 2000s.
Here's a fun fact about Jason Momoa: He was a successful model before he got his big break on Baywatch. In 1999, Momoa was named "Hawaii's Model of the Year," and, based on this photo, we can definitely see why.
On Stargate Atlantis, Jason Momoa played Ronon Dex. As you can see in the photo, Momoa is rocking some seriously cool, thick dreads while in character. Initially, executives wanted Momoa to cut off his dreadlocks, but he was able to work out a deal and eventually Momoa's long locks became Ronon's signature hairstyle.
Jason Momoa unleashed his inner barbarian in this remake of the 1982 classic. Momoa's display of savage ferocity in the starring role undoubtedly helped him prove that he would be the perfect Khal Drogo in Thrones.
Finally, Jason Momoa scored the role that he was born to play — Khal Drogo in GOT. As leader of the Dothraki and husband of Daenerys Targaryen (AKA Khaleesi AKA Daenerys Stormborn AKA Mother of Dragons), Khal Drogo was a dominating presence in the first season of Thrones.
Although their relationship started off rough at first (Momoa even admitted that filming the "forceful" sex scenes with Emilia Clarke were very difficult for him), Khal Drogo and Daenerys eventually became a true power couple. (Of course, in true GOT fashion, Momoa's character didn't stay alive as long as we wanted him to.)
Following his success on Game of Thrones, Jason Momoa co-wrote, directed and starred in the indie film Road to Paloma. With this indie film, Momoa proved that he is a multi-faceted artist who can do much more than kick some serious ass on screen.
Also, Momoa's real-life wife, Lisa Bonet, starred alongside him in Road to Paloma, and I think we can agree that that's adorable. Momoa, you softy, you.
From Baywatch to Game of Thrones to making his directorial debut, Jason Momoa has had quite the career, and we're definitely excited to keep seeing him on our screens. Some of his upcoming projects include Braven, Justice League and Aquaman.
