Hello there. Do you think this picture is one of the most horrendous things you've ever seen? You might have arachnophobia. 55% of women and 18% of men experience it to some degree. Which is sort of a shame, because there are over 40,000 species of spiders living in the world, and some we haven't even discovered yet. That's a lot of things to be afraid of.
Ok, it's absolutely no lie that this entire house needs to be burned down immediately. We don't even care that that all your stuff is in there. Just set it on fire, right now, because this should not exist in the world. So, the normal person would be afraid of this horrifying sight. But what if we told you there was a cute spider out there?
What about this one? He's sort of fuzzy. Maybe he'd want to cuddle? No? Hey, come on. He's a musical spider, after all. Give him a break. That takes a lot of talent. Maybe just let him scurry on by without stomping him on the bottom of your shoe. No? Okay, fine. But here is one spider we'll know you love...
This is Lucas, and he's the cutest spider you've ever laid eyes on. Yes, he is animated, but it is still quite a feat to make a spider into something that we want to cuddle up with and take with us wherever we want to go. That's the work of a skilled animator.
Lucas is the work of animator Joshua Slice. He posted a twenty second video of the work he did animating Lucas on a Youtube video. The voice work on the spider was done by his nephew, Lucas. Yes, the spider does, indeed, talk. And yes, it's cute.
"Hi, my name's Lucas. I have too many eyeballs," said Lucas in the short video (which you can check out at the end of this list). "I look around with all my eyeballs. Wait. Wait. Wait. Spiderweb? Spiderweb. Oh, there it is. Okay, bye." We know, that sounds a little insane. But we promise, it's adorable.
"This is an animation test of a character I've been working on. I'm responsible for the design, modeling, rigging, animation, lighting and rendering. The voice acting is provided by my nephew, Lucas," wrote Slice in his Youtube description. Bravo, Slice. You made a spider we don't want to run screaming from.
Other people seemed to agree. The comments on YouTube were all heavily in Lucas's favor. "[I] have watched this on repeat for five minutes straight, [I] can't stop," said one. We also may be guilty of watching it more than one time.
"Squee! He's adorable! The animation is so perfect with his expressions and the voice. He could come and visit me any day," said another commenter. He's the only spider that could come visit us any day, but we agree. "I have not loved a spider this much since Charlotte," commented another.
We smell a new Disney character on the rise. You hear that, Disney? Come sweep up this animation before someone else does. The last spider we've seen in Disney was Rosie, from A Bug's Life. It's about time that our eight-legged friends get some more representation in film.
Has this proven to you that spiders are actually cute? Or does even Lucas give you the heebie-jeebies? We know where we stand, and we agree with the internet: we want more Lucas. We smell a hit character on the rise.
Watch The Video
Did we mention that you should watch the video already? Because you should really watch the video. You might just cure your arachnophobia. It will be the cutest twenty seconds of your day. You're welcome.
