The '70s were an interesting time in America. It was an era defined by its unique fashion trends. Perhaps no show better embodied this decade than The Partridge Family. The television series ran from 1970-1974 and had some of the most unforgettable hairstyles and music in a period full of unforgettable hairstyles and music. No one can forget the musical family and their colorful bus.
Keith Partridge was played by David Cassidy. Sadly, Cassidy passed away on November 21, 2017. He was 67 years old. His music defined a generation and touched millions.
Cassidy would be the first to admit he wasn't perfect. He had ups and downs in his life, but overcame many before he passed away. According to his publicist, "David died surrounded by those he loved, with joy in his heart and free from the pain that had gripped him for so long. Thank you for the abundance and support you have shown him these many years."
David Cassidy admitted to being an alcoholic a few years before his passing. His cause of death was organ failure, which may have been a result of the abuse he put his body through. Worse than the physical toll was the emotional one, as it caused a rift between him and many of his family members.
Cassidy spent his last years battling to overcome the addiction that gripped him for decades. When he was admitted to the hospital for organ failure, his entire family reunited. They wanted to show their support before he was gone.
His son Beau Cassidy was also there with him. This was his child from his third marriage. Beau said, "I’m so grateful that I was able to hold and love the best friend I’ll ever have in his last moments."
This wasn't an oversight. She was intentionally cut out. The will read,
"(A)ny references to his ‘child or children’ are only to Beau and not to Katie... It is my specific intent not to provide any benefits hereunder to Katherine Evelyn Cassidy and/or any descendant of Katherine Evelyn Cassidy."
Although the two put their differences aside before his death, they had not spent much time together. They had a very complex relationship. Cassidy felt since he had not raised her, he didn't have to parent her. He may have wanted to include her at the end, but by then, it was already too late.
But money isn't everything. The two reunited at the end and were able to find closure. That's more valuable than anything. David Cassidy left the world on a positive note. In one of his final interviews, he said,
"I love that I’ve had an amazing life that has touched millions of people all over the world.I’m flattered. The world needs more kindness."
