We’ll never get over David Bowie’s death. But we can console ourselves with the knowledge that he left behind an immense legacy. Much of that is his music, his films and his artistic influence, but it also includes his children, like 17-year-old Lexi Jones.
Lexi is not David Bowie’s only child. He also is the father of Duncan Jones, 46, who is a film director. He directed the movie Warcraft which is based on a video game and isn’t exactly Ziggy Stardust or anything.
Bowie has a good relationship with his son, but has expressed regret at missing much of his childhood due to his professional commitments. When Lexi was born, he was given a second chance to be present as a father.
“I don’t want to repeat the same mistakes,” Bowie admitted in a 2007 interview. “I never thought I would be such a family-oriented guy. I didn’t think that was part of my make-up. But somebody said that as you get older you become the person you always should have been, and I feel that’s happening to me.”
Bowie’s regrets about “missing” his son’s childhood aren’t reflected in Duncan Jones’ recollection. “We travelled all over the world and we got to do some amazing things,” Jones said. “I treasure those memories.”
Iman has credited Lexi for strengthening her marriage to the legendary Bowie. “We’ve always been very close, but if it’s possible we’ve been drawn even closer,” Iman said regarding her marriage after Lexi’s birth. “There’s a joy or a contentment that’s almost palpable to both of us. Overnight, our lives have been enriched beyond belief.”
Like her mother, Lexi frequently pays tribute to her father on social media. On Instagram, she shared this picture of her younger self with him. You could almost forget he’s a legendary rock star and not just a regular dad. But not really, because he’s David freaking Bowie.
Being good parents, Bowie and Iman kept Lexi’s private life private to give her a normal childhood. So we don’t know much about her, and photos of her are rare. But that’s OK because we’re not entitled to know anything about the children of famous people.
We’ll be watching in the coming years to see if Lexi Jones continues to live a private life, or if she takes on a public one. Will she be a pop star like her dad, a model like her mom, a director like her brother, or an accountant? You’re right; she’ll probably be an accountant.
