Imagine that you are driving along the interstate in your fancy and sexy Tesla Model S. Yes, in your imagination you have a Tesla, so just go with it! The sun is shining, you’ve got your tunes all the way up and it’s a beautiful day.
You are minding your own business and suddenly you see a another car swerving and swaying erratically on the road. The car is weaving in and out of traffic, hitting guardrails and you know something is very wrong. What do you do?
According to Jalopnik, last week a 41-year-old man named Manfred Kick was driving along in his Tesla Model S on the Autobahn near Munich, Germany. He was driving along, business as usual, when he saw something startling: a Volkswagen Passat driving recklessly.
He saw the Volkswagen Passat swerving and driving in and out of traffic. He watched as the car hit several guardrails and Kick decided to try to get a better look. He looked into the car and noticed that the man was unconscious and felt like he needed to do something.
He pulled in front of the Volkswagen and began to tap on the brakes. He was able to make contact with the Passat with his rear bumper in an attempt to slowly stop both cars. He was successful and was able to bring the Volkswagen to a stop.
Kick got out of the car and attempted to revive the man inside. He went into the car while other witnesses called for an help. When the fire department arrived, they determined that the man had suffered a stroke while driving.
Because of Kick’s brave and heroic gesture, the man was taken to the hospital. According to the police, he was in stable condition as of this writing. So thanks to Kick and his Tesla, the man was saved. Kick was unharmed, but what about the Tesla?
Buying a sexy, sleek Tesla Model S will cost you anywhere from $68,000 to $81,000. And that is just the starting cost. These electric vehicles have been marketed for the luxury car market more than the mass market, so if you have a Tesla, you know you’re fancy.
Because of the heroic gesture, the Tesla endured about 10,000 euros (over 10,000 USD) in damage. So who pays for this damage when the driver saved a life? Well, there is more than one hero in this story.
Elon Musk shared the story on Twitter and then announced that Tesla would provide all of the repair costs to Kick for free. The tweet now has more than 15,000 retweets and 50,000 likes. In the tweet he wrote, “In appreciation, Tesla is providing all repair costs free of charge and expedited.”
Due to standard practices, the German police are conducting a formal investigation in the case. This is no big deal, and just standard practice after an accident. But according to German police, he will most likely be in the clear and rewarded for his behavior than given any ticket or fine.
Because of his act of heroism, Kick was able to save the 47-year-old Passat driver’s life. He put his $70,000 plus car on the line, but more importantly he put his life on the line to save another human being.
