If you have ever had the misfortune of hitting an animal while driving, you know that it is pretty much the worst thing ever. The guilt that you endure, the sadness that you have for the animal and its family and the anger that you have towards yourself for the epic fail really stinks. Especially if you hit a skunk. Then it really really stinks.
What do you do after a collision with an animal? Do you bury the animal and give it a proper send off? Do you call the police and keep going because you can’t face it? Do you say a prayer, keep driving and hope for the best?
A man in China named Loudi Zhang was on a road trip with a friend when a dog jumped in front of their car on the highway. Zhang hit the poor pup, assumed that the dog must have been killed in the collision and kept driving. Boy, was he wrong. Turns out, the pup hadn't gone very far at all and was actually hitching a ride in his front bumper.
And before we go any further. Really Mr. Zhang? You kept driving? Explain yourself!
Zhang explained, “At the time I was traveling very quickly and thought the dog was killed or had escaped getting hit by any of the car wheels. I didn’t get out to check on the damage.”
I'm not sure you are in the clear just yet, Mr. Zhang.
He drove 200 miles after the hit and run and then he heard barking...and more barking…and even more barking. Realizing something was up, he pulled over and was shocked to find the pooch alive and well except for the fact that he was stuck in the front bumper of his car.
He tried to get the pup out, but it was stuck. His only option to save the animal was to drive another 248 miles to the nearest vet’s office with the pup in tow.
When they arrived, the vet helped rescue and release the pup, miraculously finding only a few scratches on the cuddly canine. After the dog was cared for and released, Zhang decided to adopt the pooch.
"It escaped from great danger. This really moved me. This shows my fate with the dog," said Zhang.
Look Zhang, you have redeemed yourself by adopting the pup, but next time you drive with your new furry friend, maybe he can sit in the actual car instead of riding inside the front bumper?
