Remember those days when the only thing you needed to ask someone to prom was courage? Ah yes, a time when your legs felt like jelly and your tongue felt like it had swollen an inch or two. Well, these days, asking someone to prom has gotten far more complicated. People break out into song and dance. Others make declarations of love on social media and whatever other creative trends that are popping up online. Sounds exhausting? It is, and from the looks of it, it can be very dangerous too.
Let’s just put it out there before anything else — it’s all Dylan’s fault. It’s always the guy’s fault. Side note: I’m glad to read about someone who is as prone to “accidentally hurting people” as I am.
You see, Dylan is a modern romantic. He knows he could have just asked Carly to prom on any school day, seeing as they are already a couple. But this guy wanted to keep the romance alive. It’s important, especially these days when everyone’s so easily distracted.
Cute or puke? To be fair, their prom is going to be held on a ship. (If you think about it, it sounds like a bad idea. There’s nowhere to go if your date is an idiot. There’s nowhere to hide if you need some privacy. And I’m pretty sure someone will puke and the rest will have to watch because they’re stuck on a boat.)
You should also know that Carly is a lifeguard. So his “afloat” declaration makes more sense when you think about it. Regardless of whether or not you think this is a cute prom-posal, Carly thought it was a sweet gesture and obviously said yes.
Speaking of sweets, Dylan kept the gifts traditional. This promposal ended with flowers, a framed picture of the two of them and some delicious treats. Carly got to eat sea salt caramel chocolates and salt water taffy. Fancy.
You see, that’s because it was that fancy chocolate that almost killed Carly. It started a bit later that night. The two were at a basketball game when Carly started to feel itchy. By the time she arrived home, she had a huge rash on her neck.
By the time she arrived at the ER, Carly's condition was severe. “The nurses were giving me worried looks from the moment I walked in,” Carly recalled. “I guess by that time the reaction had reached my face and my eyes were swollen shut.”
Thankfully, Carly was treated in time and she did get better. She was released 5 hours later, feeling much less itchy and maybe a bit scared of her boyfriend? Maybe breaking up would be a good idea right about now…
Thankfully, Carly has a good sense of humor. “He asked me to prom and I was so excited that I ended up in the hospital,” she tweeted later that night. I’m sure this incident won’t come up if ever these two start arguing. It’s not like she’s going to file it under “things to dredge up when we fight…” Yeh, probably not.
