iOS 9 has a feature called Wi-Fi Assist that will help you when your signals a little spotty. If you have poor Wi-Fi connection, turning on Wi-Fi Assist will keep you on the internet by automatically switching you to cellular connection. Wi-Fi Assist is a default setting, but you can turn it off by going to Settings > Cellular. Scroll down until you see "Wi-Fi Assist" and turn it off using the slider. Why would someone want to do this? Well, with certain plans, you could be unknowingly eating up data and could end up with a hefty phone bill. Ouch!
Need to make sure the painting you hung is level? Apple has got you covered. There's no level app per se, but there is a level feature in the Compass app. Go to the Compass app, then swipe left to get to the next screen (you'll notice two little dots at the bottom indicating that there's another screen). Voila! You've found the level feature. Now go hang some paintings!
Have you ever thought to yourself, "Man, I wish I could go to sleep to music, but I don't want it to play all night?" So have a lot of people, apparently, because the iPhone has a sleep timer function. To access it, go to the Clock App. It's labeled "Timer". Set the desired timer length, then press "when timer ends". Scroll to the bottom and tap "stop playing". Hit "set" on the top right hand corner, then hit "start" and you're good to go!
Sometimes your iPhone may run slow and sluggish, but there's a quick tip to getting it running swiftly again. You can clear your iPhone's ram. Unlock your phone, then hold down the top power button. When "slide to power off" appears, hold down the home button for five seconds. Then, the home screen will reappear and your phone will be running faster and better!
Hate seeing ads when you're playing a game? There's a simple hack that will function as an ad blocker - Airplane Mode. Since ads need an internet connection to pop up, if you take away the connection (by putting your phone on Airplane Mode), then you'll take away their power.
The iPhone default is set for you to take your panorama photo from left to right. But if you want to rebel and break the mold by taking your photo from right to left, you can do that, too! Just tap the panorama bar that goes across the screen to change the direction. It's literally that simple!
Need to make an emergency call, but the phone is locked? No problem. Press the home button to pull up the passcode screen. Then, hit "emergency" on the bottom left corner of the screen. You can then call emergency services. You can only call emergency services with this feature, so you can't call your mom - even if your mom thinks it's an emergency!
If you make a mistake when using the Calculator App, you can easily fix it! Just swipe right, and the most recent number you entered will disappear, like magic! So if you're making a long and complicated calculation and you accidentally hit the wrong number, you're not SOL. Algebra students everywhere can rejoice!
You can download locations in Google Maps so that you can use them if your phone is offline. Go the Google Maps App when you are online. Search for the location you want to download, like McDonalds, drug stores or even Manhattan. Tap on the location name, then hit "download". You'll be good to go when you're on the go!
If you accidentally close a tab in Safari, don't fret. It's pretty easy to get it back. Just press then hold the "plus" button in Safari and you'll be able to access a list of recently closed tabs. Hopefully your browsing history isn't too scandalous!
How low can you go? Pretty damn low on the iPhone. To reduce your phone's brightness lower than the default setting, go to Settings > Accessibility > Zoom. Triple tap the screen, and a menu will come up. Hit the "Choose Filter" option, then choose "Low Light". Voila! You've just set your phone's brightness lower than low!
Text message timestamps are a valuable tool when figuring out if your crush likes you or not. Just swipe left on the text, and you'll be able to see exactly when it was sent. Now figuring out why it took five minutes for someone to reply to you is a different story!
Texts aren't Tweets, but you can still make sure their 160 characters or less. Go to Settings > Messages. There, you can turn on "Character Count". You'll be able to see exactly how many characters you're sending out into the world!
Need to dial an extension, but don't want to navigate through a pesky phone menu? You can enter in the extension when you're dialing the number. Just enter the number, then press the "+*# " key. Hit pause, then type in the extension. Hit done, your phone will dial the number, and you'll be automatically connected to the exact person you were trying to reach! Unless you get an answering machine, then that's not our fault.
Sometimes you gotta restart your phone. Life happens. Hold down the sleep/wake button. Let go. Move the "power" slider to the right. Your phone will turn off. When it's off, hold down the sleep/wake button again. Your phone will turn back on like magic. But it's not magic. It was designed to do that.
