Optometrists cringe when they see how some people handle their contact lenses. Pro tip: Don’t rinse them in tap water before putting them in your eyes. You could end up with a nasty infection, and no one wants that.
This one pretty much applies to any situation where you’re interacting with another person. Just put the phone down for 10 minutes and let the optometrist do their thing without having to listen to your yacking.
Some people actually try to cheat on their eye exams. The people who do this were either those really annoying overachievers in high school or they just really don’t want to wear glasses. Just why, people?
The point here is for the doctor to check your eyes, not to see how well you can move your head to the stimulus. It’s probably hard to remember that as a patient, but the eye doctor likely sees this on a daily basis.
This is another point that can really be applied to other areas of your life. When the eye doctor asked if you’ve had any changes in your vision since your last visit, you don’t need to divulge in every tiny detail of your life. In reality, the doctor doesn’t care.
When your life’s work revolves around eyes, sometimes you might walk past a random person on the street and get a little too fascinated by their eye abnormality. And maybe even silently diagnose that person in your mind.
11. Kids Get Upset When They Find Out They Need Glasses
They sometimes get nervous that the other kids in school will pick on them for their glasses. Heartbreaking! Optometrists do their best to reassure kids that they’ll look great and even give them a wide selection of frames to try on.
Often times it’ll arise that older patients have very poor eyesight and have been driving their cars the whole time. The eye doctor will then have to tell the patient that they can’t pass them, but many times the patient will simply find another eye doctor who will pass them.
If you wear contacts, chances are your eye doctor thinks you should get regular checkups more often. Contacts can reduce oxygen flow to your cornea which can lead to some pretty nasty stuff, like corneal ulcers or infections. Yikes.
